What Makes Our Benchmarking Service The Best?
You learn more when a leading international
expert in software development productivity...
Dr. Katrina Maxwell has
published numerous papers about software development productivity and cost
estimation, notably in journals such as IEEE Transactions on Software
Engineering, IEEE Software, and Management Science. She has also taught courses
in business math and statistics at several academic institutions and is the
author of "Applied Statistics for Software Managers"
published by Prentice Hall. In addition, she recently published a chapter

... benchmarks your software projects using a unique,
high-quality database.
The Experience database
currently contains data from over 622 business software applications in the
Banking, Insurance, Telecommunications, Manufacturing, Retail and Public
Administration sectors. Last year more than 100 new applications were added to
the database. The high quality of the Experience data has been recognized
by the research community. A number of papers in international journals and
conference proceedings have been based on the Experience data.
The functional size of projects in the Experience database has been collected at such a fine level of detail that it is possible to benchmark software projects sized using the IFPUG, Mark II or Experience function point counting methods. We have these measures for every project. We can also benchmark projects that have not been sized with function points if you can answer 28 simple questions about its functional requirements.
The Experience database contains information about 21 Project, Process, Product and People situations experienced during software development for every project. It is through the comparison of these factors that you will learn why your project was more or less productive, and what needs improvement. Without this knowledge, it is impossible to identify levers for improvement.
